Trying to find information on whole body inflammation can be time consuming because it is such a broad subject. You can narrow your search by focusing on the sources of inflammation. In other words, understand the causes before you worry about the effects.
A simple way to think about inflammation is this: the body is trying to heal itself. If we fall and cut ourselves, different types of cells are sent to the affected area. The white blood cells, platelets and other cell types have begun the inflammatory process. This can also result in swelling or redness.
No worries. This is the way it is supposed to happen. Unfortunately, if nothing tells the immune system to stop fixing the problem it will keep on going.
It will continue sending various cells and chemicals to attack a non-existent problem. If there are no diseased tissues to attack than healthy ones will do. This is what happens when the immune system is hyperactive. In other words, the body is at war with itself.
Let's be more specific. There are a lot of terms that describe inflammation in various areas - many of them end in - itis. It is from the Greek root meaning inflammation. For instance:
Arthritis - joints
Encephalitis - brain
Pancreatitis - pancreas
Hepatitis - liver
Bronchitis - lungs
Gastritis - stomach
Tendonitis - muscle tendon
I could go on but I think that you see the point. This is what we mean by whole body inflammation. Different areas may be affected at various times but every part is vulnerable.
How do these diseases relate to each other?
Harvard University recently published a comprehensive study of health statistics. It found that omega 3 deficiencies were the 6th biggest killer in the U.S. Tobacco. Cholesterol and obesity were the top three. Most of the omega 3 deaths are related to inflammation.
The omega 3s that they are talking about are chiefly found in cold water fish, wild game, nuts and leafy greens. After looking at the food sources, it should come as no surprise that 90% of us here in the West are deficient in these essential fats.
There are several reasons why whole body inflammation and omega 3s are so closely linked. First, the word essential means that the body cannot make them. If we do get them often, our immune system will get out of balance. An out of balance immune system will result in the diseases [and more] that I mentioned earlier.
These omega 3s are part of every cell membrane in our body. If they are not there, then they will be replaced by something else - either the wrong type of omegas or saturated fats. Both of these substitutions are long term recipes for disaster.
What should we do?
It takes three-to-six months to replace the fats in our cells with healthy omega 3s. Remember, we cannot store them. In fact the ones we have only stay in the blood two to three days. The way that educated consumers are answering this issue is with omega 3 fish oil supplements.
No area of the body is safe from inflammation. Leave this road to poor health by taking a different path. My website can help direct your research on fish oil.
