America's staggering economy and our childhood obesity epidemic share a number of things in common starting with the fact that in each cases procrastination only serves to form the problem worse. Procrastination permits the cancer to unfold and in the wake of the recent vacation President Obama took action on the economy. He applied a tourniquet so as to prevent the bleeding. He jolted the heart so as to keep it beating, and he moved this nation from talking regarding it, to doing something about the problem. Whether or not you like what he did or not, he took action!
In this case the moves needed to be huge and daring as a result of a hodgepodge of band-aids and patchwork solutions did not stand a snowball's chance in Honolulu. In short, when it comes to the economy we finally took daring action. Within the case of childhood obesity we tend to have not.
While not a Huge and Daring Plan...
Realistically speaking we have a tendency to've been debating, researching, and wringing our hands over childhood obesity for at least a decade now. However after spending several billions of greenbacks and passively standing by while variant young lives are being washed down the greasy drain, all we have to indicate for it is a patchwork of band-aids, a hodgepodge of semi-interventions that the childhood obesity monster laughs at, and spits on, as he continues his attack on our nation's kids.
Like the economy, without a huge, bold, and coherent antidote that we the people can understand and rally behind, countless our kids can lose their battle with childhood obesity.
Where's the Vince Lombardi...
At this juncture I raise, where's the US Surgeon General who not only prioritizes the matter, however adds "And here's the actions we want to take in order to flip the tide on childhood obesity." Where's the Congressman who's willing to risk his own political capital, rise in the face of the continually babbling consultants and say "If we have a tendency to take these actions we have a tendency to'll defeat childhood obesity during a predictable amount of time." Where's the Lee Iacocca, the Vince Lombardi, the Jack Kennedy, the ML King, the Proverbial Individuals Mover who will move us from wallowing in procrastination, to ACTION against childhood obesity,?
The Difference Between Winning and Losing
Controversial selling guru Dan Kennedy contends that the distinction between the winners and also the losers in this life is the power (or the shortage of ability) to require action. It's true for our nation's economy and it's equally true for childhood obesity. In each cases it is time to stop talking and to try to to one thing regarding the problem...currently!
