The IELTS, International English Language Testing, is required for people who are seeking to enter certain countries in order to work or attend school. I'm going to discuss a few important steps you'll need to take in order to have a good chance of passing the IELTS. Proper preparation is the key to success in this.
Slang is not allowed
When taking the test, you must understand you are not talking to acquaintances or family so you must avoid slang, even though it is commonly used, especially American slang. Mental mistakes like these can end up costing you dearly. Here are some examples of the words to avoid.
Using words like gonna instead of going to, using words like dunno instead of don't know, for using words wanna instead of want to. There a slew of other words I can use as examples but these are just a few you want to avoid.
Instead of contractions, practice using full forms.
Contractions are words that are joined together with some letters left out with an apostrophe instead. These are going to be kind of words where you have the option of joining them together or keeping them separate. Examples are: aren't for are not, couldn't for could not, we'll for we will.
You'll need to be aware of a lot of types of these words. You may use them on the speaking part of the test but not in the writing.
Practice the writing portion
When taking the writing portion of the test, the most important part, remember not to use abbreviations and weird spellings that people have become accustomed to due to phone texting, Skype, and internet chat rooms. Avoid the use of u for you, k for ok, cya for see you.
If you aren't a native English speaker, it is very easy to get these phrases confused, so keep these things in mind while going through your IELTS preparation.
Getting a high enough score to pass the IELTS shouldn't be hard at all with the right IELTS preparation.
