A local production called the innocents finally opened showcasing the talent of local stars. Once you look at the set, you shall see a picture, the subject of many strange speculations. Anonymity is maintained by the person that has owned this for a very long time. For some strange reason, the owner was said to have bought this portrait as she was speeding down the road and she stopped to buy it suddenly.
She thought that it was impossible for her to afford it but she could not leave until the store clerk gave it to her. It was school time soon and she realized that she needed to purchase clothes, books and supplies for the kids. Rehearsing in her mind, she would tell the clerk that while the piece of art was magnificent, her budget just won't allow her to get it. In a very loud voice, she yelled that she just had to purchase the portrait no matter what, stopping the clerk before she could return the portrait back in place.
A problem awaited her as she walked out of the antique shop still in disbelief that she had bought that expensive thing just like that, how was she possibly going to explain to her husband about her compulsiveness as she bought the portrait so mindlessly? It was a painting done around the late 1800's and early 1900's, featuring a Borzoi, a Russian wolfhound in oil. Even as one can easily see that it is a lovely picture, to someone trained will enough and knows a lot about the Borzoi, he would easily spot that the artist chose to paint in an almost straight on pose, where only the shoulders and head of the dog are captured. The part of the chest and shoulder is not so proportioned as you might see.
This lady who bought the picture was very familiar with the breed, and knew exactly how a Borzoi should look like and this made things much weirder. That night, her husband arrived and found the picture hung against their wall but then instead of blowing up since his wife overspent for that painting instead of buying the needs of their children first, she was surprised that he felt exactly what she gad felt too when she first saw it.
There never was an instance that two photographs of this portrait ever came out the same and there have been so many photo amateurs and experts that took shots of it. It was both creepy and amazing how strange lights would linger on the painting's surface, sometimes making it look like it was in color and then black and white sometimes, then there would also be moments when the dog would appear to be flat then three dimensional all of a sudden but the most bizarre instance would perhaps be a spectral face showing on its right side.
During a certain time that the couple who owned the Borzoi portrait discussed the probability of an entity guarding the portrait or something, the husband dismissed it as hyperactivity of the imagination thanks to light reflections for there is not something unusual about it. Initially hanging on the wall, a large ceramic plate fell with a crash but when they say it on the floor, there was not one sign of breaking.
The couple readily agreed to have their portrait loaned to the producer director of the playhouse for his play, the innocents, which was about the supernatural after he heard so much about the portrait and thought that it would be s great add on to his production. Openly, they discussed with the producer that the portrait might have something mystical about it, specifically something that entered their home the day they bought it and they believe that letting him use this for his show can shed some light to their queries. They can only keep their fingers crossed that this true.
