You have decided to travel to Alaska with your family on a cruise ship! Once you have decided which cruise line you are going to be using, you will receive a listing in the mail of offshore activities that are available to look over. This way you can decide prior to your voyage what you would like to participate in at each port. On Alaskan cruises, the activities are generally centered on an Alaskan theme such as dog sledding races, whale watching, panning for gold and deep-sea fishing for tuna, salmon and King crab.

Keep in mind that Alaska tends to have cooler temperatures consistently. Many of the cruise activities that you have picked will take place in less than ideal weather conditions. Make sure that you pack accordingly and pick your activities wisely. For example, you may want to avoid reserving a helicopter ride that costs $500 for a day that is overcast and cloudy. On that day, you may want to spend some time visiting local shops and markets offshore.

A major part of the whole Alaskan cruise experience for a numerous amount of passengers is mingling and socializing. Cruises understand this and will schedule activities to break-the-ice such as fun contests or games for passengers. It is completely up to you if you want to participate in these activities or not, it is not mandatory!

The ship's itinerary will provide passengers with useful information such as scheduled social events, activities, classes, information and locations of must-see scenic landmarks and most importantly, the scheduled arrival time of your ship to its intended destination. Many people follow itineraries in order to maximize their time spent on the cruise and outline the way they are going to spend each day. It is also used as a helpful guide for cruise highlights and news.

Many people agree that the cuisine and dining options that are available on a cruise plays an important role in the overall experience. Many cruise lines offer several different dining options as well as flexible dinner seating times to accommodate full schedules. For a more casual dining experience, there are cafes and bistros that do not require dressing up in order to eat dinner. This appears to be a great option for families that have younger children!
