Dogs often act like humans during the most inconvenient times. Many, whether dog owner or not, see dogs as almost like humans because they feel a wide range of emotions too and deserve to be loved. An animal portrait may successfully be done because of the application of this recognition and study of dogs' moods, likes, and dislikes.

Wagging his tail and refusing to prick up his ears are instances when a dog shows he resents having his picture taken. The portrait artist would be distracted by the hardheadedness of the dog. Getting your dog to do an interesting and arrestive pose may be accomplished when you surprise it with a sound rather than a smell. When a dog gets a whiff of a scent, it would usually extend its neck and create an undesirable pose, but when a dog is startled mildly, it would stand straight and prick up its ears.

Your dog is most alert before he is fed early in the morning, so this would be the best time for his photograph to be taken. Dogs who are hungry are more alert and can do the poses immediately. During this time of the day, it is cool and so his mouth would not be hanging open as much compared to the later hours of the day. A fatigued dog would not look good as a subject, and so would a dog whose mouth is wide open.

It is because of one detail that you can say that dog photographers' studios and the studios of radio broadcasting stations share something in common. A vast number of sound effects is there, ready to be used in case one sound effect fails to attract the desired attention. You can find mouse squeaks, bird calls, duck quacks, and a number of other assortments available.

A breeder wants the perfect side of his dog captured in the portrait when he examines the proofs. Dog photographers recognize a distinction between the work of an artist in sketching and the camera portraits of caninea. In drawing a picture, the artist makes an effort to show only what he can see and not what he knows is also there. Photographers who work with dogs do the exact opposite and try to capture things about the dog that are not easily visible but should be there.

Emphasize the length of a daschund's body when taking its picture. Most breeds should be taken with all four feet firmly planted on the ground and with the body at a slight angle to assure correct foreshortening. The German boxer is one breed that is quite difficult to understand. An unfriendly nature takes over this dog when he is around other dogs.

Amateur photographers of dogs often lose sight of the fact that the hungry dog is the easiest to photograph. They feed their dogs before or during the shoot and end up with lazy dogs. It is no trouble for an alert dog to assume the stance.

When posing a dog, photographers would often require the absence of the breeder. Dog owners can imitate mothers who are nervous and concerned for their child, to the point of making a big fuss, and that is why photographers do this. Likewise the dog is too accustomed to the tricks employed by his master in attracting his attention and is not aided by his presence. Using various sound effects, however, would elicit the desired reaction from the animal.
