There can’t really be any online businesses who don’t understand the power of the Google page 1 position. Getting to the top of Google’s search results pages is critical in order to ensure a high profile is maintained. Without such a strategic position, businesses will be missing out on the vast majority of potential sales, and with over 70% of the western world searching using Google, getting to the top of that particular search behemoth is crucial.
Here’s a frightening statistic for you: of the many millions of searches carried out every hour, over 90% of people never look past the first two pages of the search results. That’s astounding, but then, I realise that I’m one of those 90% myself. But for a search such as ‘online marketing’ which produces 158 million results, that means that of the 15 million pages of websites, only 2 of them will be viewed by the majority of people.
