Most women adore jewellery and can't seem to own enough of it. When you are buying jewellery how much is too much to pay for costume jewellery?
If it is simple trinkets you are looking for then these can be found in any dollar store or at any swap meet. These tend to be extremely cheap and made of very thin cheap gold or even plastic. They have no designer names or anything else and this costume jewellery falls under the category of fashion jewellery and is made more for young teens and small girls than grown women.
You have some that may look real but is still very cheap. It is usually painted with gold color paint and may cause severe allergic reactions in some people. At the very least it may well turn your skin to a nice shade of green or any other number of colors. As a gift it is really only well suited for a friend or a teenager who may lose it or only wear it a few times anyway. If given as a gift I would be up front about it being costume jewellery.
Some costume jewellery may actually look quite real and cost almost as much as the genuine article. This is usually gold plated and includes semi precious stones. Some may be silver. I don't think it is worth the price you will likely pay for it. Of course that may all depend on why you are buying it to begin with. If it is for a gift them it may fool some until they take it to be appraised and then it could be quite a shock.
Costume jewellery comes in all shapes, sizes, and prices. To me it is not worth several hundred dollars just to keep up appearances however I have no doubt that many would disagree with me. I personally think most women would be more appreciative of the genuine article even if it is a smaller piece than what you can buy for the same amount in costume jewellery. There are some exceptions to this rule however.
One reason to buy costume jewellery is to prevent theft. Most people who are looking to make easy money won't bother with it unless they think they will be able to pass it off as real and that isn't very easy to do especially with buyers who know about jewellery. You might also go with the costume jewellery if you are afraid of losing it or if it is for someone who is known to lose items like this often. It may save you a bundle when replacing it or at least some guilt over losing it.
You can find costume jewellery just about anywhere you look for it. They even have special sites on the internet that sell it for weddings and proms for when you need to look good but can't afford to spend a lot.
What ever your reason or price range you can always find costume jewellery for just about any occasion. Weather you need something simple and understand or extravagant and gaudy there is something for everyone.
