In 2008, the Baltimore Ravens had a tremendous season with the guidance of rookie quarterback Joe Flacco.

The Ravens ended up making the post season and while they lost, they were certainly pleased with the caliber season they'd had, and looked forward to the 2009 football season.

The majority of the 2008 team remains intact, but the key loss is defensive coach Rex Ryan - who is now the head coach of the New York Jets. Despite this, the personnel on defense still remain fierce and are determined to stop opponents in their tracks.

Would the team be as prominent on defense without Ryan? This was a hard question to answer at this point in time, but one that is beginning to show its face in light of the first two games of the 2009 season.

Through two weeks of the NFL season, the defense in Baltimore has let up more points than usual. The 50 points allowed through the first two weeks of the season are very high for the Ravens, but it hasn't mattered much as the team is now 2-0 to start the year. The high-octane offense in Baltimore has eased concerns for now.

The Ravens are averaging over 400 yards in total offense per game thus far. With the combination of a consistent offense and a defense that still strikes fear in other teams, there is no telling how far the Ravens can go.

Joe Flacco has made use of his receivers, but more importantly, a three-headed monster at running back between Ray Rice, Willis McGahee, and Le'Ron McClain makes for one of the best trios (if not the best) in the NFL.

The AFC must know that the Baltimore Ravens will be a threat to raise the Lombardi Trophy in February.
