It’s not difficult to find tuxedos for weddings, but sometimes it can be difficult to understand the different components and accessories that go with this type of formal wear. While there are plenty of knowledgeable sales associate to help you understand every part of tuxedos for weddings, it never hurts to do a little research up front so that you have some knowledge when speaking to formalwear sales attendants.

When the term accessories are used with tuxedos for weddings, it refers to the extras besides the jacket and trousers. This includes the cummerbund or vest, tie, shirt, hat, gloves, shoes, studs, suspenders, ascot, spats, cane and socks.

An ascot is a fancy tie and hanging from a knot are broad ends. The tie is usually worn with a cutaway jacket and elegant wing tip shirt and is secured with a stickpin or tie tack. It’s most often worn for weddings during the day. ‘Spats’ is a term used to describe short formal fabric shoe coverings. They’re considered a high fashion accessory and definitely not a necessity. These shoe coverings are worn over the instep and reach just above the ankle. They’re fashioned to your shoe by a strap under the foot and buttons along the side. Studs are worn instead of shirt buttons and can really dress up a shirt. Most shirts need three or four and they should match the cufflinks. Suspenders are also called braces and are fastened into the front and back with a waistband clip. Sometimes button on suspenders are used if the trousers have suspender buttons fastened in the waistband.

A cutaway jacket, also called a morning coat, is a long jacket that’s popular with daytime tuxedos for weddings. Sometimes they’re worn for other daytime formal affairs. The jacket is rounded off at the bottom and has no satin. If you’re a small man with shorter arms, you may find arm bands useful. These are elastic band worn on the upper arm over the shirt and under the coat. The purpose of armbands is to shorten a shirtsleeve to make it reach the perfect length. Although not used as often for shirts worn with men’s tuxedos for weddings, arms bands are quite common with boy’s size shirts.

Men with larger necks may appreciate what’s called a collar extender. This is a little plastic button with a loop that’s designed to attach to the top button of any shirt. This adds a little extra room around the neck making the shirt more comfortable to wear.

There are some basic types of jackets with tuxedos for weddings and some that you may never have heard of. The stroller jacket may be one. This is a popular jacket for daytime weddings and has not satin. It is usually worn with a , a 4 in hand tie, pearl lay down collar shirt, vest and tuxedo pants.

A lay down collar shirt is a shirt commonly worn with tuxedos for weddings that has a regular collar and pleated front. It looks close to the style of a business style dress shirt. A 4 in hand tie is a necktie that is securely fastened with a slipknot. Although commonly worn with a stroller jacket, it can also be worn with a cutaway coat.
