Hazardous signs are created for everyone’s protection. They are used to identify areas and containers which pose threats to health and life in general. You can see these hazard warning signs in construction sites, household cleaners, and laboratories. They are also seen in workplace and in certain products.

These signs contain symbols which contain a meaning and thus, enabling you to recognize them and avoid the hazards that are always present when handled inappropriately. These signs are regulated by organizations that enforce proper handling and protection. Hence, they have uniform symbols, although the color may vary.

The most common hazard sign is the skull with crossbones. Traditionally, this sign has been used to indicate poison. Over the years, however, such symbol also carries a generic meaning of lethal hazards. It is found on many containers and places which indicate that the content of the container or the substance found in a room or laboratory can be lethal when ingested, inhaled or inappropriately mixed with other hazardous materials.

If there is a danger of radiation in any given place, the symbol of black blades of a fan with a yellow background is used. While radiation is helpful in treating cancer patients, it is hazardous to people. Thus, when such hazardous signs are seen on a place, it means that you should wear protective clothing that is designed specifically to protect you from injury.

Another hazard warning sign is the three interwoven arcs on a circle, and on its center the arcs form the shape of a bell. This sign can be seen in color black on a yellow background, or black and white. This symbol represents the substances and areas which have biochemical hazards that can be transmitted by air or by skin contact. There are also products which labels are marked with such symbol to alert anybody who handles the product of the potential hazard.

The danger of high voltage is imminent especially when there are storms creating downed power lines. The power plants are the great source of electricity. Construction sites can also pose such danger if electricity is required to make the site operational or functional. The danger of high voltage is often indicated with a lightning bolt or a staggered exclamation point.

There are written warning signs that can be posted any where there are hazards. This warns both the employees of the area, visitors and even passersby to take the necessary precautionary measures to protect themselves.

A simple exclamation point enclosed in a triangle can mean potential danger. There may be variations in symbols to contain generic meaning. At times, the danger can be classified according to flammability, health risks, and hazard and reactivity details. These threats can be represented by corresponding hazardous signs.

In other countries, it is a policy that manufacturers and companies which nature of existence may bring potential danger to people are required to use the hazardous signs not only to warn people of the danger, but also, to dictate to them that they should wear necessary protection.
