Ratan Tata, The Tata group chairman kept his promise when his Company, Tata Motors launched its middle class' automobile, Tata Nano, on January, 2008. On the inauguration ceremony of Tata Nano, Ratan Tata stated that he had this plan six years before in 2002, to give a value for money common man's vehicle when he observed consumers who drove two wheelers with their small children on the unsafe roads. Prompted by this notion, he decided to build on a new economy auto to India that would be cheap and trustworthy and as a consequence, Tata Nano was designed by competent team of Tata Motors. In 2006, Tata Motors made plans to start manufacturing plants of Nano cars in Singur, West Bengal. In 2007, their Singur manufacturing plan was abandoned due to some local problems and this crisis delayed the making of Nano cars. Tata Motors started manufacturing Nano cars at Sanand in Gujrat state. This production unit has the capability to produce 2,50,000 cars per annum and Tata Motor have plans to manufacture more in forthcoming years.
