If you are trying to spruce up your home a bit, think about the ceiling. It may sound strange, but whenever people come into a home, they usually look towards your ceiling before they look at everything else. The problem is that many ceilings just look bare. There is nothing but a bit of paint, which can make your home look dull and boring at first glance. However, there is something you can do about this problem add crown molding. If you re not sure where to begin, here are some helpful tips to help you install the crown molding to give your home a whole new look.

Tip #1 Take Time to Plan
Probably the most important thing you can do is to plan out this job before you try to start it. Start out by getting some ideas on the different designs that are available in crown molding. There are very elegant designs and simple designs as well. Go with a design that will compliment your home and one that you have the skill to install. You ll need to take measurements as well. Make the measurements as precise as you can so you don t end up with waste. Once you have your planning done, then you are ready to start the actual installation.

Tip #2 Ensure Each Length of Molding is Exactly the Same
When you are purchasing your crown molding, be very careful. Stores usually purchase the crown molding they carry from different manufacturers. Each manufacturer makes molding a bit different. You don t want to get molding that is just a bit different. Make sure that every length you buy has the same thickness, width, and spring angle so you get a uniform look when you install it.

Tip #3 Use a Finishing Nail Gun
It s a good idea to use a finishing nail gun when you are putting up crown molding. It is a good choice for a couple of reasons. First of all, it s a lot faster than doing the nailing with a hammer. Another reason to using a finishing nail gun is that you avoid any dents in the molding that can occur when you hammer in nails.

Tip #4 Add Wood Glue
It s not a good idea for you to nail too close to a joint, but you can make the joints strong by using some wood glue. At every joint you have, use a bit of wood glue or you can use some adhesive under your molding to improve the strength in joint areas.

Tip #5 Don t Caulk Nail Holes
You may be tempted to caulk the nail holes when you are done installing the crown molding. This is a mistake that will leave dimples that are visible. Instead of caulk, use spackling that is shrink free. This allows you to cover the nail holes without making them even more obvious.

There you have it just a few simple steps and you re on your way to having a far more attractive room that you ll enjoy while you re living there, and future home buyers will love as well. You ll be surprised at how nice such a simple little step will make your home look.
