In conjunction with a museum's animal friends exhibit, a program where six local artists will demonstrate their individual approaches to animal painting will be held. The job of each artist is to create an animal theme painting in the museum galleries and then talk informationally with the visitors telling them about the style and techniques they used to capture the image and spirit of the animals they painted. According to the executive director of the museum, there is special meaning in animals for people of different cultures and backgrounds.
For many the buffalo is a spiritual symbol or the dove as a sign of peace. A red tailed hawk may be a good omen, and the dog a cherished friend.
