Rebound relationships offer you a chance to get on with your life, put the past in its place and enjoy someone new. Only one thing: it's not all that simple.
People who move on to these relationships often have not given themselves enough time to process the former involvement. Emotionally they are still with another person, unable to give themselves completely to new relationship. This can cause major problems, of course.
Is it remotely fair to your new interest to know that emotionally you are in another place, thinking of someone else? In body you may be in one place while your heart exists somewhere else.
If you're thinking of getting involved with someone you know has been in deeply serious relationship for a long period of time, you need to be upfront and ask some serious questions before opening up your life and heart. How long were you involved? How long have you been apart? What do you want from being involved with me? That's a good start.
Rebound relationships can make you quickly forget about the past. Chances are that the former involvement had moved beyond the romantic/lovey-dovey phase into the real meat and bones of what make up a couples' life. Problems are replaced with fun and laughter. Everything seems easy. That's what makes rebound relationships so intoxicating.
If you find yourself in one of these rebound relationships, or if you are about to enter one, purposely slow things down a tad. It is not going to hurt anything. Be cautious. Ask questions, both of yourself and of your new partner. If the new involvement has value, it can withstand some scrutiny.
In these situations it would most advantageous to your emotional well being if you slowed events down a tad. What's the rush? You don't want to allow yourself to be a bridge that takes your new partner from one way of life to another, with you left behind wondering what the heck just happened.
It would be good to be honest with yourself when it comes to the potential outcome of these rebound relationships. Often, they fail. That doesn't mean the are guaranteed to be unsuccessful, but know the place you are about to enter. "Caution" is the word of the day.
