Prescription medication abuse is one of the major issues that Americans are facing in this day and age. While it is great that there have been so many technological advances in the fields of both science and medicine, it has also come at a great cost.
Whenever a young girl picks up a magazine, she looks at the models on the pages (still) and subconsciously wants to have the same types of bodies because that s what is “cool”. Too often, both men and women fail to realize how special they are in their own unique way, and they also fail to see that there is no “one way” to look. Think of how boring the world would be if we all looked exactly the same! That being said, over the years, with the increase in technological advances and things like plastic surgery, etc. it seems as if it really isn t that big of a deal if you go in one day and have your teeth whitened or veneers applied so that you can have the same beautiful smile that your favorite actors and actresses always flash around while on television. Similarly, the number of people who become involved in plastic surgery type ventures has drastically increased within the past few years to the point where it is almost commonplace to find out that someone you know has had something done to their bodies that alters it in some way.
There are few people, it seems, who haven t done something to their bodies whether this involves getting multiple piercings in more than just their ears, getting tattoos or having a routine tummy tuck because as hard as they ve tried (and they swear it), they simply couldn t get their abs to conform to the exercise regimen that was recommended to them. All of this aside, with the increased number of people adding their various doctors to their speed dial, it shouldn t come as a surprise that more and more doctors are finding themselves prescribing more medication than ever. The ease with which medication is now dispensed has led to an all new group of people who are abusing a different type of drug: prescription drugs. If you have a drug in your medicine cabinet, then there s a way to abuse it trust me.
So, what can be done about prescription medication abuse? First of all, you have to ask yourself why you are going to see the doctor? Is there something really wrong with you? Are you being a hypochondriac? What is the reason why you feel a trip to the doctor is necessary? If you feel that you have to go to the doctor so that you can discuss how best to get rid of your butt or how to make the skin on your arms stop jiggling, then perhaps your first stop should be a nutritionist followed closely by a psychologist.
We are too dependent on drugs to solve our problems. When we can t sleep, rather than talking it out with a friend or reading a book until we are tired, we head straight for the medicine cabinet for the NyQuil. When we are feeling a little down in the dumps, then we look for some sort of “magic pill” to help us perk up a bit when all we may need is a bit of exercise and a few laughs with friends.
