Eagles are very large birds of prey, and commonly recognized because of their distinctive shape. They are also distinguished from other birds of prey predominantly by their greater size, stronger body, and more heavyweight head and beak. They are famed for their very sharp and powerful talons (or claws). They are also well known for having very sharp eyesight. This allows them to see a potential prey from very far away. An embroidered eagle design may feature all or part of an eagle’s body. For example, an eagle’s eye is a powerful emblem is some cultures.

The eagle is a bird of great significance in many cultures around the world. In particular, an eagle’s large feathers are vital to a number of religions and their spiritual practices. Native Americans hold eagles to be highly sacred creatures, often utilizing their feathers in sacred rituals. They are also bestowed upon those who have committed noble deeds of great bravery and skill. Those wishing to emulate these values might have an embroidered eagle on their clothing.

The eagle is also highly significant within the Christian religion. Because it is most commonly seen soaring upward into the sky, it has become a symbol of resurrection and ascension to heaven. It symbolizes Jesus and baptized members of the Christian faith. Designs that have an embroidered eagle with a halo are meant to represent John the Baptist. The bible also refers to eagles and some Christians may have items with an embroidered eagle on them, or embroidered with bible verses related to eagles in order to inspire them in their daily life.

Eagles are highly significant creatures in ancient heraldry codes. The eagle appears in many national symbols: for example, the coat of arms of Russia has a golden eagle with two heads, the coat of arms of Austria bears a black eagle, the coat of arms of Egypt has a gold eagle, the coat of arms of Serbia bears a white eagle and the coat of arms of Poland has a white and golden eagle on it. The eagle also famously appears in the Great Seal of the United States of America. Eagles are very commonly associated with fighting and war, and are often seen on the uniforms of soldiers and high ranking military officers.

An embroidered eagle might be designed in many different colors, depending on the kind of eagle that is being depicted and what the wearer or designer wants it to represent. A golden eagle is seen as a symbol of glory and courage and may be put onto a garment or item to inspire these qualities in another, or to recognize someone who has committed a deed worthy of this honor. Someone who wants to show their patriotism might have an eagle embroidered onto a bag or another item if their national coat of arms includes one of these creatures. In the United States, it is particularly common to see embroidered patches which have an eagle on them, as part of the national seal of that country. The eagle is often seen on the uniforms of personnel related to United States government, particularly officials of a higher rank.
