A tool can be a device, a procedure, or a process. Tools are used for specific purposes such as producing something and achieving something that may not be tangible.

There are a mixture of kinds of tools. In fact, tools can be classified into a long list of categories and some tools can be used simultaneously because each of these tools has different functions.

There are tools that are referred to as cutting tools. Cutting tools are wedge-shaped that are commonly used to slice something or cut a surface and divide it. These cutting tools have sharp edges that need to be sharpened regularly for these tools to be able to cut and slice efficiently at all times. Daggers and shears are examples of cutting tools.

Tools that are used to gauge measurements are called measuring tools. These tools differ from the quantity that is being measured. The ruler, meter stick, and measuring tape are used to measure the length of an object or a path. The test tube and measuring cups are used to measure the volume of a liquid or a substance. The clock is used to measure time. There are still a lot more of these measuring tools.

There are tools that are used to mold certain materials into the desired shape. These are called shaping tools. These are primarily used in the baking industry for cakes, bread, and pastry. In pottery, the potter utilizes a mould to sculpt ceramic material to shape.

There are tools that help in moving objects. These are called moving tools. The basic principle behind this concept is the application of minimal force on the tool such that it will be able to apply a much greater force on another object based on fundamental properties of physics such as leverage. These tools include wrenches, pliers, for smaller objects and trucks, cranes, and planes for heavier ones.
Tools that are used to help an individual manipulate and store data are called information tools. Examples of these information tools include the computers, spreadsheets, and software applications. Tools that are used to keep things intact or in place are called fastening tools. Examples of these fastening tools include screw drivers and glue guns.

In buying tools, a few things should be considered. Of course the tool that is going to be bought should be in a working condition to be able to do its function effectively. Every tool especially those that are going to be used daily should have high quality even if it would mean that it is more expensive. Tools that are bought cheap may not last for a long time. One should be aware about warranties when buying so that he would not have to worry about spending again if he gets a defective tool or the tool becomes defective in the long run.

The most important thing to remember in buying and using tools is that the tools should have been made with the safety or health of the users in mind. It would do well if one buys tools from stores or with brands that have been proven and tested to be useful, durable, and safe.
