To build a shed for your garden supplies starts with planning. You will need to know how big a shed you want or need for your tools and other items. When you know the approximate size of the building you want a plan can be obtained. Many home improvement stores and hardware stores have these plans available. If you cannot find one you like a plan can be found on the internet.
When you have the plan you like it is time to round up the material needed. Most plans come with a material list or you can buy the shed in a kit form. You can buy framework that includes floor and wall framing connected to the roof framing system. Choose the type of exterior finish you want when picking your materials.
When framing you lay out all the framework on 16 inch or 2 foot centers. The dimension lumber is nailed so sheathing will splice on a joist, stud, or rafter. If you do not have premade kits you frame the floor first. A floor should be framed at 16 inch centers for strength. Cut the floor framing so you have the outside dimensions you want. Nail joists between the rim 3/4 of an inch behind center marks. Sheet the floor with plywood or oriented strand board. Green treated material should be used if it will be in contact with the ground.
Frame the walls at 16 inch or 2 foot centers. If you are using kit pre made framing this will already be in place for you. Crown your studs so the crown is up. Nail between your plate material with two 16 penny nails. Snap lines on floor the width of your dimension lumber in from outside. Stand wall and nail on line. Do this to all walls making sure to frame openings for a door and windows if desired.
When walls are framed and standing sheet the walls with plywood or OSB. You can also use a 4 x 8 plywood siding product that is structurally sound. Place rafters on top of wall plates at 2 foot centers. Nail down with 12 penny nails. Sheet the roof with a 1/2 inch plywood or OSB product. Apply a facia board to the heels of the rafters. Apply roof edge, weather shield, felt, and shingles or metal roofing material.
Put the doors and windows in. Side your shed unless you sheeted with a 4 x 8 sheeting project. You can put wood, vinyl, or metal siding on the exterior. Decorate your garden shed the way you would like it.
