You may have been into your neighbors’ house and were impressed by what you saw: a dog plays around freely in a space but does not get past certain flags. Imagine that it was your own dog. You would have no more complaints from angry neighbors, and your dog can actually enter the house without leaves on his fur. By asking your neighbor, you find out that he is using an invisible electric dog fence. With it, you can now scrap the plans for a picket fence. Your dog will dig under it anyway.
Why Is It Invisible?
The central equipment of the system is called the transmitter. The transmitter does the broadcasting of radio signals around your house. The radio signal will reach a certain area of your property specified by the range. The point where the signal becomes undetected is the boundary. Thus, the emission of radio signals actually creates the invisible electric dog fence.
Setting up the Transmitter
You will have to find a sweet spot in your house where your transmitter will be posted. Ideally, the best spot would be the attic near a window or an area where there is no metal object to obstruct the signal. As soon as the transmitter has the right settings, you can then turn it on. Your house will now be engulfed by a bubbled o radio signals.
Building a Visual Boundary
Just because it is an invisible electric dog fence doesn’t mean that it has to stay that way. Besides, you don’t want your dog to always step on the boundary because it is not his fault. This is the reason why the boundary flags exist. You’ll use the receiver to detect the boundary, and then you plant the flags. The more flags planted, the better.
Understanding the Receiver
The receiver is just like the normal radio. When your dog is inside the bubble, the receiver detects the signal; when he crosses the boundary, the signal gets lost. At this point, the receiver sounds an alarm and then gives a mild static correction.
The correction would give discomfort to the dogs, but it is completely safe. Punishment is not the goal of the receiver, but it reminds the dog that he is outside the boundary. You have the option to adjust the correction settings in order to match the dog’s size or temperament. There is also an option to just play the alarm but not the correction.
Training Your Dog
Your neighbor’s dog did not change overnight. It involves several days of training in order to get the dog to familiarize himself with the flags and heed to the warning sound. You and your dog will have to do them too. You don’t have to worry since the product already has a training booklet explaining to you the routines you will do in less than 15 minutes every day. The objective of the training is for your dog to remain in place even when his favorite treats are outside the boundary. Only when the master says okay will he be able to cross.
