One saying reads, “Eternal rewards, such as length of life are in wisdom’s right hand, whereas the things that perish, such as riches and glory, are in the left.” (Cassiodorus, Jerome). Life at its success with riches and glory, however, stands on the foundation of wisdom.
Wisdom implies how we implement the obtained knowledge through education into the use for benefits to oneself and to other people. Unquestionably, education is one essential way to gain understanding, skill, methodology, conceptualization, and experience and expertise which builds up the firm foundation for successful life in the future as one may dream of.
At present, the world of education opens up the free window of study channels, both formal and non formal education system. Choosing the right study for oneself pays an important role on directing towards the future success. It acts as a compass whether we are on the right track. These are some guidelines about how to choose the right study :
1. Know yourself. Sounds simple for anyone to know himself/herself. When it comes to seriousness, we find it difficult to know ourselves at times. In reality, we may choose what to study on how we like it or love it or with other reasons, such as trend of fashion, peer pressure or golden egg profession. Once we jump into it and it is not the thing, we may lose many things; money, time, determination, etc. The failure probably becomes lifetime thorns in us. Knowing yourself considers how we observe the likes and the dislikes, the dexterity, the skills.
Together we get the advise from the seniors who know you well, such as your parents or the advising teachers. Moreover, your best friends can be a good mirror to you with direct address about what you are and what you will be. Towards your career dream, knowing the real you lays a very basic step to boost your strengths and dilute your weaknesses.
2. Know the faculties. We begin from the very start to the utmost end of this career path by knowing what we will confront first once we jump into the study choice. We can learn this by looking at the career idol. Pick up one successful person and learn from his/her life; what he/she has gone through during the study until the current success. Can we go through this same experience?
Then, we go into the details about the study, the faculty, the major and the subjects. It is true that we may not love all the subjects in the major we choose. But we are through it without great suffering once we learn about it on the first hand. With learning information, we understand that through good consideration, every subject in the curriculum pays a component on how we utilize the overall knowledge into practical use and further the education in the future.
3. Listen to your heart. Free up your mind as we are created uniquely with clear purpose. Only that how you find yourself and follow your heart. Some may plan a second contingency in case the first plan fails. We should understand that every decision contains risk, somewhat. However, those who fall into what they love will one day get into success.
A friend of mine loves to create a card so much since her early study. When in a university, she chose to study arts. After her graduation, she opens a small card shop and becomes a star of this business. Another friend dreams of being a professional musician but chose to study business. Her musical skills turned dull and her music became her hobby. Currently, an employee in one company, her dream runs dry.
Don’t chase after because …
1. It’s fashion. Some profession is characterized by fads, shortly popular and fades down very quickly in vain.
2. It’s my dad and mom’s dream. If you don’t dream it, you fall asleep with other people’s dream in suffering all your life. It’s better to walk the dream of your own. You may have some obstacles following your way, it becomes a joyful suffering to fight for your own dream.
3. It’s my peer perference. The truth is your friends may not last with you forever, your job does. Your friends can make you happy, but the wrong job cannot. It pays you with toils and tears. So think for yourself.
4. It’s immortal job. Never there be such job. If you seek for a secured job, seek for what you are. If you find a job in you, you never lose it.
5. It’s a star job. Again, if it is not you, you will never be happy upon your richness.
The true success will never be measured upon the financil wealth or external acceptance. It is your heart which fathoms out; the heart with power to create, appreciate the work and generate self esteem for something uniquely yours. This heart in you is confident that it pays full compensation for what you have put all in. Now, it is time to choose for your own “Wisdom”.
