A lot of people have always been curious in various forms of art but they never tried their hand at it simply because they never thought they were up for the challenge. Some people also got stuck midway when they had to support themselves and were unable to finish their studies. Whether you have a talent for drawing and you keep creating those crooked photograph arts on Photoshop on your own or you have never been able to draw much but are interested in learning how to go about it - if you would like to turn that fad into a productive course - there are many options available for you. Graphic design can be a wonderful career, that will provide you capital gains as well as professional fulfillment.

Design schools are never cheap. The commutation costs along with the education fees alone will cost you a fortune. Add to that all the things that artists need to create art like software costs, computer costs, internet charges, art supplies, books - and you have got yourself a career field you cannot afford to enter. While you cannot cut down on the art supplies and other related costs for studying graphic design, you can at least cut down on the commutation and tuition cost of living. Even if you have never really tried your hand at drawing, you can learn the art - and employ it in your conspiring. You just need proper training and knowledge of skills and then practice enough to acquire those skills. Just go ahead and do it and do not treat it like a dreary job but rather like a passion. That is the best way to learn while you are enjoying it.

If you want to learn how to become a graphic designer at home, the first items you will need are a whole lot of books and some basic art supplies. The first books you need are those that explain perspective and composition in art and other important principles. Andrew Loomis is very famous for writing books that are great for the beginner. You should get your hands on one of his titles from the library or just buy it if achievable because they will always be great reference books even when you have a simple knowledge of the art. Then, you need to know that no artist or designer ever became good without training their hands and eyes on the sketch pad. Pick up a pencil and a sketch pad and begin drawing things that you see around you. Make one small story board size picture (about 2 inches x 3 inches) and then make a larger A4 (later A3) size one. Draw as much as achievable from life, keeping in mind the techniques and forms you learnt in your Loomis books.

The other books you will need are on the most important topics you need to learn about like Color Theory and Mixing, Graphic design elements, logo design, letterhead design, book cover design, brochure design, magazine design, visiting card design and anything else that you can think of. View other designer's work so you can be inspired - an essential part of the process. Get books on all these subjects and study them like you would in design school. Then do practice assignments and get yourself going. Join online forums and graphic design communities to get in touch with more people who are accomplished designers or also in the studying phase so they can give you tips on things they learned along the way. Learning Graphic Design can be fun and exciting if you treat it that way!
