Cosmetic dentistry is not any field of dentistry like all the other approved 9 specialties, rather it is a dental work done by almost all dentists to develop the appearance and functioning of a person's teeth which physically highlights certain cuts and angles of the face which were never enhanced before.
Cosmetic dentistry is misinterpreted by many people as a separate branch of medicine; it is done by every dentist depending on the part of the face where the problem lies. If the crisis fabricates in the teeth being yellowish in color, then a general dentist can also be your cosmetic dentist because that only requires teeth whitening and polishing.
American Dental Association considers cosmetic dentistry as only part of orthodontics and prosthodontics. Orthodontists can align the uneven teeth by braces and similar devices, making the face look proportioned. Similarly, prosthodontists reinstall and replace decayed and deficient teeth or oral tissues with permanent or temporary fixtures.
The most common cosmetic treatments include the whitening of the teeth to give a sparkling smile, the shaping of the enamel to better the physical state of the tooth. Sometimes instead of shaping the enamel, a bonding is done to the tooth, which is the application of a composite material to give a visible shape to the teeth.
Dental bridges, which are false teeth, are fixed between crowns to fill an empty area left by a missing or removed tooth. This procedure unlike other treatments is permanent, if once it is fixed then it cannot be removed unless due to some serious problem. Similarly, gaps between teeth can also be filled by Veneers, which are porcelain laminates to disclose gaps and also to mask certain teeth which are not affected by whitening.
Contouring, which can also be said as tooth reshaping, is an immediate treatment for pointed, chipped, cracked and also for overlapping teeth. It is naturally used to amend the length, pattern and placement of teeth. Lastly, gum lift is used for alignment of the gum line, especially for those people whose gum line is too low. Their tissues are reshaped, making the teeth appear larger and more beautiful.
