You are ready to start planning your wedding, and one of the first things your going to have to is find a hall. Even though you have dreamed of something specific all of your life, this may not really be practical, and there are a few other things that you are going to have to decide before you go out looking for looking for a place to host your reception. These things are the date of your wedding, reception, the location of the ceremony, and the number of guests that you are expecting.

Once you have decided on where the ceremony will be, you want to pick a reception hall somewhere close by. Especially if you have out of town guests, it can be annoying and inconvenient when you have to travel across the city from the ceremony to the reception. You also may want to pick a location that is incorporated with a hotel, or has easy access to a hotel for your guests, so people don't have to worry about commuting late at night.

Once you choose your date, you may have to be flexible. A lot of reception halls are booked a long time in advance, especially during the popular wedding months of June to August. You may have to have a couple different halls your interested in, and also a couple different dates in mind. If you are interested in saving money, you may even consider having your wedding on a Friday. It is becoming more and more popular and you can probably get the hall at a cheaper price.

You also need to make sure that the hall is practical to your needs. You want the reception hall to comfortably seat all of your guest. You don't want it to be overly large however, because empty space will show poorly and can cause people to wonder. If you are expecting 200 guests, don't book a hall that seats less than that, assuming people won't show up. That is always a big mistake. People who don't RSVP will show up regardless, and others who didn't include it in their response will always bring dates. You would rather have too many chairs than not enough.

So once you have your date, approximate guest list, and the location of your ceremony, you are ready to go out and find your reception hall. Then you can start picking out decorations, and do all your planning! Have fun and good luck.
