Ballroom dance refers to kinds of social dances that require two men and women to dance together following some standard steps. Ballroom dance is really a derivation from the word ‘ball’ (social events attended by elites inside the early 18th century), that consecutively originates from the Latin word ‘ballare’ meaning "to dance”. The most widely found kinds of ballroom dance could be mentioned as Quickstep, Tango, Slow Foxtrot, Modern Waltz, Viennese Waltz and numerous forms of Latin dances.

Today, ballroom dance is performed not only in Europe, but inside the Asian-Pacific along with the Americas as well. It is prevalent to find formal ballroom dance competitions, referred to as Dance Sport, for ballroom dancers at different proficiency levels.
The different ballroom dance types originate from diverse backgrounds and have special aesthetics, rhythms, techniques and tempos. In spite of these discrepancies, all ballroom dance forms have widespread related characteristics. Performed by two men and women (usually a man and woman), these dances require that they dance in a particular arrangement which is extremely famously termed as the ‘Close Hold’.
This position requires the two men and women to maintain five areas of contact - 3 hand contact points wherein the man’s left hand holds the woman's correct hand, the woman’s left hand is positioned on the man's proper upper arm along with the man's appropriate hand is placed below the left shoulder blade on the woman's back; one elbow contact point wherein the woman's left elbow is placed on the man's proper elbow and both arms are maintained in a horizontal line contributing to the ease of movement; 1 chest contact point wherein the correct region of the chest of the man touches the best region of the woman contributing to the expression of feelings and emotions between the two.
In conclusion, ballroom dance is really a fashion which will never die away given the manifestations of love, joy and pain between 2 people.
