Tennis shoes refer to any type of footwear that is worn while playing a sports game such as basketball or even baseball. This foot gear was once made only of rubber and canvas but now the footwear is constructed of many types of space age materials such as polymers and synthetic leathers. People who looking for footwear for the actual game of tennis have a large selection to pick from. The main purpose of the shoe is to offer support, comfort, and durability, during the game. The game can take place on clay, lawn, or on concrete. Most people play on concrete because lawn, or grass, and clay, is reserved for the country club scene.
Unless one is a member of a high society country club, one will probably hitting the ball back and forth on a concrete court. The concrete court will take its toll on foot gear especially if it is a slow court. The slow court has a rougher surface and is made for players who like a slower paced game. The fast court has a smoother surface so the ball travels faster when it hits the concrete.
The fast court is fast because the surface is smoother and the ball will skid off the smooth surface faster and thus travel faster. The smooth court does not wear the shoe down as fast as the slow court. Players who use slow courts will have to replace their shoes more often than players that play on fast courts.
Some players twist their ankle easier than others so they need a shoe with a wider heel base to keep their ankle from rolling when running from side to side. Some players like the extra support that a high top shoe offers. This type of foot gear has a high binding which gives the ankle more support.
Some do not like the extra binding and choose to play in the traditional footwear without the higher binding. There is a shoe in between called the mid high. This type of footwear is a cross between the high top and the standard shoe. It is a good fit for those who want the added support but not the increased binding offered by the high top.
The player has to be comfortable on the court if he wants to win the match. If the player has to be always thinking about his feet he will not win the game. The sport can be tough on foot gear which is especially true for those who drag their foot after each shot. People who drag their foot will wear down the toe of their shoe long before the rest of the shoe is worn.
Tennis shoes can refer to any type of athletic footwear used for any type of athletic activity from basketball to baseball to badminton. But people who need athletic foot gear for the game of tennis itself need foot gear that offers support. They also need foot gear that is comfortable and durable because the court takes a toll on the shoe.
