Fitness motivation seems to go through distinct stages for women.

Even if you have been dedicated to your fitness workouts for years, you can still have times when you may get bored. Your motivation can be challenged by the familiarity of the routine; after all familiarity breeds contempt. Handling the ups and downs of motivation will get easier as you stick with your program and accumulate knowledge. The following strategies can help you keep your motivation up.

Considering a different approach can help if you find it increasing difficult to maintain your forward momentum. Try setting up a performance based reward system for yourself. Setting up this kind of positive reinforcement can help. Treating yourself to a healthy reward for completing your entire workout routine as planned is a good example. Stopping by a healthy sports drink bar for a tasty treat could be a possible reward. Or you could indulge in a hot bubble bath but only if you reach your goal. Be creative with the rewards for meeting performance goals and stick to them.

Anywhere you look, you'll find that a minority of people rise to the top and seem to achieve success at whatever they attempt. We also know those successful people have certain character and personality traits in common with each other. You'll find that such people are almost impossible to distract from their goals and commitments. When they commit themselves to something, they find a way to accomplish it, no matter what problems they may encounter. Things that cause others to stop in their tacks don't deter them at all. When things look bleakest and most hopeless, they only try harder. You can cultivate this kind of outlook too. You have to tell yourself to keep going enough times until it is second nature.

Burning out, feeling stressed out or plateauing is something that affects everyone sooner or later, and this inevitably makes it hard to stay motivated. You can do everything humanly possible to minimize such outcomes, but sometimes life just hits you with something you didn't see coming. It may be a lack of progress, an injury or just a sense of monotony about your workout routine. If you suspect that you are experiencing such a situation with your fitness program, then simply take a short break. Give yourself some perspective and go over what's been happening and why. A lot of times just taking a break for a week, perhaps, can work wonders. Don't think of fitness motivation for women as something that's reserved for a select few. You can find quite a bit of helpful material on this topic. You can collect your own set of tools that you'll have by your side when you need them. The main thing is to not backtrack and lose any of the progress you've made.
