2010, it seems became a year which ushered a new era in the Tech World. The technology front remained very active throughout the year and considering all the impressive developments that took place, one would only start believing that the pre-2010 years were as good or bad as the early man’s age. This clearly explains how far the recent developments in Information Technology have brought us.
Let's have a look at few of the most prominent technological developments that took place in 2010
1. Apple iPhone 4:
The new version of the iPhone came all revamped with looks to die for and the brand new iOS4 operating system. In spite of all the controversies surrounding the antenna issue; iPhone still remains a darling.
2. Google Nexus S
Google’s Android had taken the world by storm. But just before the best of the Android phones could take over the market, Google launched the next in the series Google Nexus S; the first phone based on Android 2.3 (gingerbread; the upgraded version of Android).
3. BlackBerry Torch:
This is RIM’s answer to iPhone and Android phones. Touchscreen, QWERTY keypad, an all new OS6, it has it all!
4. HTC Desire Z and HTC Desire HD:
The Desire Z brought the QWERTY keypad to complement the touch screen experience while Desire HD was a glorious upgraded version of the Desire series.
5. E-Book readers:
2010 was the year when the e-book readers really became the cynosure of all eyes. With the all new e-book readers which came with the ability to connect to the internet anywhere on the go; became a major factor in making them popular as people could now buy e-books anytime. Also, why wouldn’t a gadget as light as 300 gm be the apple of anybody’s eyes when it harbours the capability of carrying all the weight of your bookshelf that stacks 100’s of volumes!
6. Advanced motion gaming:
Though it hit headlines way back in 2005 courtesy Nintendo Wii but it was only last year when two prominent players brought it in the market at almost the same time. Sony brought out the PlayStation Move and Microsoft brought Microsoft Kinect.
7. Cloud Computing and Cloud OS
It was only when Google unveiled its Chrome OS to the world when the idea of Cloud Computing seemed so real. It would only be so far away as the broadband companies try to make themselves a household name.
All your files will then become capable of being stored virtually and you’ll be able to access all your files from any computer in the world. Yeah! You read that right; you wouldn’t be required to carry your PC around!
8. A myriad of new and improved Operating Systems:
From an upgraded iOS4 which came with the launch of iPhone4 to the BlackBerry OS6; the markets saw new operating systems with appreciable new capabilities. The Nokia N8 came with Symbian 3 while Android has been under a perpetual upgradation; from 2.1 to 2.2 and then gingerbread. The news says Android 3.0 will be available anytime soon this year!
9. The Tablets:
The netbook faced its worst enemy in 2010; the Tablet. With Apple making the first move in bringing out the Apple iPad; other biggies of the tech industry jumped into the bandwagon way too soon. Motorola, ViewSonic, Samsung, Dell and BlackBerry were among the few who brought tablets to the market peppered with their own personal touch.
10. Dell Streak:
It is neither a pure phone, nor a pure tablet. You can safely put it into a different sub category. This 5-inch screen device that is Android 2.2 based is surely a mega-phone device. Don’t be shocked if you make heads turn to glance at your device!
