Many people are frustrated when it comes to selecting and registering a Domain Name for their website. While the actual process is relatively simple, there are a number of factors that you should now consider when registering a domain. First, it is a fact that all the top search engines give priority to a domain with a primary suffix - i.e. com/net/org. Therefore do not select or accept a recommended domain with a .biz, .info, or .us suffix.
What this clearly indicates is that you need to get creative in selecting the various optional base domain names in order to end up with a .com, .net, or .org suffix. An example should suffice here. Let’s say you are going to sell baseball gloves. If you perform a domain name search on baseballgloves.com you will find that this name - along with the .net and .org variations are already registered. If you did not know the difference you might opt for a .biz or .info suffix in order to retain the primary keywords in the name. In reality, what you should do is try registering mybaseballgloves or something like that - any of which you might be able to reserve with a .com, .net, or .org suffix. The ‘my’ prefix is universally ignored by the search engines and you can still rank it highly with enough links and content. There are additional variations of that strategy, like adding a hyphen between primary domain words, etc.
The next piece of key data is that top search engines give great credence to sites where the keyword is or is in the domain name. This is a huge advantage over other sites where the keyword is not in the domain name or page name. Finally, in this section of domain considerations is the Page name vis-à-vis the keyword. If you name your primary landing or selling page mybaseball-gloves.org/baseballgloves.html you stand a much better chance of outranking someone else who is selling baseball gloves and has an identical number of content pages and inbound links. This will produce higher ranking than if the other site also has the keyword in their domain name. These little things can make a huge difference when it comes time to be ranked.
When working with your website authoring package - whichever kind you choose - be sure to refresh or clean/reorganize your cache on your browser in order to display the latest version of your site after it has been uploaded.
