Most people don't realize just how big of a company Acer Inc. Is. They are the second largest computer company in the world, and considering the number of companies out there that are making computers, this is a big deal. Acer has in it's collection, seven different series of Acer laptops. Each series caters to the specific needs of the user. The Acer laptops series include the Acer Aspire series, the Tablet PC series, the Travel Mate series as well as the Aspire Timeline series and the Extensa series.
The Acer laptops Travelmate series has laptops that were designed specifically for the needs of business people and professionals. These laptops are equipped with everything the traveling business person needs including both ethernet and wireless ethernet adapters and a PC card slot. There is at least one USB port, but usually multiple ones to connect your external devices and the most recent models come equipped with the dual core processor which gives the user more memory to work with as well as a better graphics card to utilize.
The Tablet PC series is basically a laptop shaped mobile computer. It has a touch screen and the computer is typically operated by a stylus or fingertip instead of a keyboard. This is basically a mobile way to interact with your computer.
The Aspire series of Acer laptops is to date the company's most popular. This series contains about seventy-five different models. There is even an Aspire netbook. This series was designed for casual, every day household or small business use. They were first brought to market in'99.
The Extensa series is another group of Acer laptops. The 9 different models of this series are comparable to the ones in the Travelmate series. They were made for business people and professionals.
Acer has been in some lawsuits recently and has come out on top. First, the company suing Acer claimed they were copying patents including the power management in notebooks. Acer turned around and filed a counter claim against the company for patent infringements. The other company settled out of court with Acer. This meant that the Acer laptops would begin to dominate the market.
Recently, Acer announced that they will start to push the Linux program with their computers, including the Acer laptops. Acer has already started this with their netbooks and has made the Linux operating system increasingly popular. In fact, Acer has already been going after businesses, introducing the Linux operating system into their ranks. Now they are going after home users and the Acer laptops will be containing the Linux system more as time goes on.
