From the mythology to the culture, Ancient Greek philosophers were the minds of the day that were unofficially appointed to explain the mysteries of life and the complexity of the world. There are a lot of different things that you should learn and appreciate about these individuals. Keeping this in mind, you will be able to use this article to introduce yourself to a few of the most noteworthy thinkers of Ancient Greece.
The first thing that we need to go over is what a philosopher actually is. This is quite simply put as someone that was able to not only think through complex structure and design, but will also be able to begin the identification of the way people think and the reasons that they act the way they do. They were storytellers, weaving practical life lessons within fatalistic works.
Socrates was often revered as the father of the critical thinking movement. As a philosopher, he often pondered on what the general public actually knew and understood. He would quiz them on such broad terms as courage and love and would also spend a great deal of time explaining to people that they really did not know and understand it quite as well as they should.
Socrates was able to influence a great deal of people, and even a few of these would later become his pupils. Perhaps the most famous of all of his students would be Plato. Plato believed the world was a fallen place, and before our physical lives our souls were from some place of perfection. The good things we do and understand are derived from us remembering our souls in this ideal place.
Perhaps the most popular student and pupil of Plato would have been Aristotle. He is often revered as the founder of modern science. Aristotle took the principles of Plato and approached them in a more practical way; this made him a very influential philosopher.
If you were curious about some of the most popular Ancient Greek philosophers, hopefully you have a general idea about them now. While there were certainly others, these three comprise the most popular and well known of all of the great thinkers of that time.
