Anybody who has spent any time playing the mmorpg Runescape will have experienced, fallen for, or even been behind 1 or far more of these scams/general back stabbery which have been about since the golden days of Runescape classic.
Number 1 - The Free Amour Trimming Scam
I no longer really a regular Runescaper, not since it went to the dogs anyway. But I do remember vividly, being unable to walk through varrock, falador, or even lumbridge in my black or rune armour without one or more players bombarding me with offers of "free armour trimming". Trimmed armour is a special type of armour that can only be had by completing "treasure trails" miniquests, (it has no special effect, other than it's look and a heightened monetary value)--hence, there is no such thing as "armour trimming", the armour comes trimmed and that's the only way to get it. Many unsuspecting and inexperienced Runescape players have fallen victim to the hustlers pushing this scam.
Number 2 - Free-Runescape-Accounts Dot Info
As with all mmo games like Runescape, there is all ways some one or some party looking to exploit the various niches from the inside. The entitled website however, is a complete joke, the person has set it up so that pie eyed and hopeful Runescapers think that they might get a shot a free high level Runescape account, but in actuality and unbeknownst to them, they are only completing CPA offers (cost per click offers) for the webmaster of the site. There are many of these sites on the net, this one just happened to catch my eye.
Number 3 - Team?
I remember when I was a young buck Runescaper and fell victim to a silver-tongued snake that promised me treasure and glory in the wild. I was clad all in my crummy mith armour and with a rune weapon, and couldn't have been more than a 30 combat level--and this pitiless evil Runescaper took me out past wild lvl 30, and after sneakily tricking me into getting a skull above my head, turned on me and took all my gear. Heartbreaking, what was worth so little to that guy, took me a whole week to obtain--and I remember clearly that I didn't go near Runescape for weeks.
Number 4 - The Yew Log Hustle
I have had a couple of close encounters with this scam also. Basically what a slimy player does is, they offer to sell a given amount of expensive logs, yew for instance, then at the last moment switch them over for a log worth a lot less, and if the player is unsuspecting and not paying attention they may just hit the confirm trade button--I guess this one works best if the logs look similar to each other.
Number 5 - One Of My All time Favorites: The Making People Members For Free!
This is such a ridiculous scam, and yet I used to see people getting responses all the time, it is an old standard in all games like Runescape. What Happens is, back when world one used to be the big trading world, players of a shady nature would go to the fountain in varrock and repeatedly yell "making people members for free hit 111!" in an attempt to get leads. Quite often I would see people bite, and I can only imagine that the trickster would then further the smooth talk in private chat, hoping to get log in details.
