The way we play golf has changed and a lot of that change has to do with the clubs we play. Match your swing speed to the correct shaft and your chances of success will increase. If you don t know how fast you swing the club, most shaft ratings also calculate the carry versus swing speed specifications. Browse the specifications of different shafts and go for one that matches your regular carry distances.
Sales of hybrid clubs are now surpassing sales of fairway woods by almost double. If you lack consistency in your long game, hybrid clubs would probably be your best bet. Exceptionally forgiving and very versatile from all kind of lie, hybrid clubs can be played off the tee, the fairway and even from the rough. These are high launching clubs, so most shaft companies are selling specialty shafts built with this in mind.
With irons the choices are even bigger. Modern iron designs are there to help with most of the common flight problems. Offset irons to reduce the slice, wider soles on irons can eliminate the fat shot and get much needed height on the ball for many. Take a good look at the irons you play. If their design doesn t give you the help you need, then it s probably time for an upgrade.
There are lots of options to decide on in the scoring clubs as well. Wedges come in a variety of forgiving designs so you don t have to compromise your wedge play anymore. If the little flop wedge shot is causing problems, then a high lofted wedge may well be the solution. If your bunker play is erratic, an easy to hit hollow sand wedge may possibly be the best solution. These are super game improvement wedges and almost impossible to miss hit or shank.
Changes in equipment rules have given us some pretty out of the ordinary looking putter designs. Weird looking, but highly effective. If your putting is failing you, a more forgiving putter design might be the answer. Are you closing the putter towards the hole too much? You probably miss a lot of putts to the left (for a right handed golfer) and a face balanced mallet could well be the remedy to your putting woes.
The right clubs for your game should make the most of your strengths and minimize your weaknesses. It doesn t need to break the bank either.
