Many people out there are looking for ways to make extra money. Why not turn your own skills into something that you can make money with? If you have a passion for skateboarding you can offer lessons to other people. In order to do this though you need to be very patient and great at communication. Students need to feel that they are going to have an excellent teacher to motivate them and to help them.
Before you get started, take a good assessment of your own skills. What is it that you can teach other people about skateboarding? Do you want to be someone that takes on beginning students? If so, you need to teach them about safety and then the basics such as controlling a skateboard and some basic skills. The more you have to offer the better you are going to be when it comes to giving lessons to others.
If you have advanced knowledge and skills in the area of skateboarding, then you want to be able to share them. People will be willing to pay more for lessons that are offering them advanced training and skills than for basic skills. Of course it is up to you how much you want to charge for your lessons. You do want to make it worth your while but you also want to make them affordable for people.
Devise a plan of what you will be offering before you advertise it. For example you may be available for 10 hours a week to give skateboarding lessons. How long will each lesson you offer last? You may want to offer it for 45 minutes at a time to your students. Do you want to see students once a week or more?
When you are giving such lessons you need to know the limits of the person that you are working with. While you do want to encourage them to try new things, you need to know where to draw the line. Their own safety as well as yours is on the line and you never want to compromise that.
Advertise your skateboarding lessons in various locations. They can include the newspaper, fliers that you put up by the skate park, and telling your friends to advertise for you. Ask local sporting goods stores if you can advertise your lessons there as well. You can also go up to people you see struggling on a skateboard and tell them about the lessons you offer.
Make sure you are fully committed to this type of way to make extra money though. If your heart isn’t in it you won’t be helping others. Don’t over schedule your lessons and make sure you show up when you say that you will. The time of those learning from you is just as valuable as your own.
Keep good track of when you have lessons and what you will teach your students. You want to move each of them along at their own pace so your lesson for them should fit where they happen to be. Some of your students will require more lessons than others in order to grasp the same level of skills.
Where you will be giving the skateboarding lessons needs to be discussed as well. You may be willing to go to the home of students, especially younger ones where their parents can also be around. You can have students meet you at your home or at a skate park in town. The more flexible you can be with this issue the more students you will get signed up.
