Are you looking for a wire binding machine? If so, it s a good thing you re reading this review of the Akiles OffiWire wire binding machine. As you may already know, wire binding is a popular binding method and is a great way to give your booklets a clean, upscale look. And a great way to bind with wire is by using the Akiles OffiWire. Find out what s good (and not so good) about this machine and see for yourself if the Akiles OffiWire is the right machine for you!

The first thing you should know about the Akiles OffiWire is that it s a personal binding machine that s engineered for both home and office use. The machine is available in both 2:1 and 3:1 pitch versions, so you ll need to decide which pitch you desire. (A note about pitch: it indicates the number of holes punched per inch of paper. For example, a 2:1 pitch means there s two holes per inch. Easy, huh?) If you go with the 2:1 machine, you should note that it s good for binding documents up to 1 1/24 thick. Conversely, the 3:1 unit is better for thinner documents. You can also use both versions of the OffiWire with any of the three types of wire binding spines: wire o, double loop, and twin loop. The 3:1 machine is also compatible with spiral coil binding spines, as well as GBC ProClick products. Therefore, your binding options are almost limitless, which is always a good thing.

One of the best features about the Akiles OffiWire is the U shaped handle. A U shaped handle is always good to have because it means the machine can be utilized by both righties and lefties, as well as reducing the risk of such painful conditions as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. (This type of handle is really desirable if you re planning on doing a lot of binding. Repetitive strain injuries are no fun!) Another great feature of the OffiWire is its wire closer. Closing the wire is really the final step in the wire binding process and it s vital to have a high quality wire closer which is exactly what the OffiWire has. Finally, this machine is outfitted with a wire holder. This is on the front of the machine and it holds the spine steady while you thread the teeth through the pages, making the whole process more manageable.

Like most binding machines, the Akiles OffiWire isn t without a handful of drawbacks. One of them is the unit s 10 page punching capacity. It s a very small capacity, so if you need to punch more pages at once, you should buy another machine. The OffiWire also lacks disengageable dies and is really designed for only binding and punching letter sized documents. And finally, the machine is rather large and cumbersome, and will take up a fair amount of desk space. (Plus, the machine s body is made of plastic, so it might not stand up to years of heavy duty use.)

Punching capacity and the lack of disengageable dies aside, the Akiles OffiWire is a very good wire binding machine and one that should please both home and office users that need to bind letter sized documents several times a week. It offers a lot of wire binding power for low output users. Get your Akiles OffiWire binding machine now!
