If you are one of those who relish storyline wherein you find oppressed people fighting for their freedom, you would be interested in watching "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" - the Starz television series. And if you missed Season 1 which premiered a year ago, your options in viewing it is either by getting your hands on DVD's of this epic television series or watch Spartacus online.

Spartacus was the most popular leader of a major slave uprising against the Roman Empire. He was said to be a Thracian by birth, who had once served as a soldier with the Romans. He became a prisoner and was eventually sold for a gladiator. Spartacus was trained at a gladiator school and was among a group which escaped. They recruited other slaves and Spartacus was made leader.

The group of Spartacus engaged the Romans in several battles. Initially, Spartacus had the upper hand and won most of them. It was when Crassus was placed in charge with 8 legions of Roman soldiers that Spartacus started suffering setbacks. The numerical advantage and superior military equipment of the Roman soldiers eventually took their toll on Spartacus and his followers. In the end, they were defeated and Spartacus was said to have been killed in battle.

The television series "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" (Season 1) focuses on the early life of Spartacus leading towards the beginning of historical records. It focused on structuring the events in the obscure early life of the Thracian gladiator. This is basically what you will see when you watch Spartacus online.

Those who are familiar with Roman history and are able to watch Spartacus online will notice historical error, deviations and blunders in "Spartacus: Blood and Sand". Although the producers tried to make the television series as historically accurate as possible, not all accounts of the main character as well as surrounding events are clear.

If you are interested to watch Spartacus online, how do you go about doing this? Simply check out the net and you will be greeted by several sites wherein you can watch Spartacus online for free. Of course this facility will not give you the best HD quality video playback, but you get what you pay for. In this case, you don't get to pay anything.

For a fee, you can watch Spartacus online at best video quality. But don't expect it to be in full HD 1080p either. Most internet video streams top off at near HD or 720p, apparently because of faster download time and optimization of computer efficiency. Needless to say, this will not detract from the viewing pleasure when you watch Spartacus online.

The prequel to "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" was aired starting January 2011. This is the 6 episode prequel series "Spartacus: Gods of the Arena". This prequel became necessary due to delays in the production of the Season 2 Spartacus. The plot revolves around Batiatus when he was not yet head of the gladiator training school. (It should be noted that Batiatus trained Spartacus to be a gladiator.) If you missed the 1st few episodes, be patient. Eventually, you will also be able to watch Spartacus online (the prequel) in no time.

There are plans to produce "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" Season 2. Inasmuch as the original lead actor Andy Whitfield will not be available for health reasons, a new face will breathe life to the character of Spartacus. And if the filming will be on schedule, "Spartacus: Blood and Sand" Season 2 will be aired early 2012. That means we have something to look forward to next year, because we will be able again be able to watch Spartacus online. But his time it will be the Season 2. For the meantime, let's enjoy our online viewing of Season 1.
