Cornwall provides a great opportunity for you to trek, ramble and enjoy short walks. There are hundreds of inland walks through forests, moors alongside ancient rives and old railway tracks exploring Cornish history and nature while getting a good cardio work out and potential suntan.

Some of the best walks you will have in Cornwall, England are those that include the beautiful coast line visible from most towns and beacon locations. Anywhere in Cornwall you are surrounded by coastline, this is one of the main reasons people come to Cornwall, to enjoy the mild weather afforded to the county due to its southerly location ensures a warmer summer than many of the counties neighbouring counties.

For the holiday maker looking to do more than lay about on the beach getting covered in sand and sunburned, walking provides the perfect escape. Even if you are not looking to have a continuous walk while enjoying your holiday, there are dozens of walking books aimed at different levels of fitness, interest and mobility so there is something for everyone down in the south west of England.

One of my favourite walks is one which stretches from Penzance all the way to Porthleven, it's a fairly long walk so you would probably not attempt this journey in a single sitting. It's around 140 miles in total distance. This kind of walk is perfect if you are traveling in a campervan, camping or cycling. I don't recommend attempting it in one sitting, but it provides a great opportunity to explore some of the picturesque fishing villages, rugged coastlines, pristine beaches and of cause let us not neglect the might of the sea, calm most of the summer but never underestimate its awesomeness.

I would break this walk down into between 10 - 20 miles a day meaning you have around 7 days travel, during this time you need to ensure you have enough supplies, appropriate accommodation and a method of contacting someone in the case of an emergency and always tell somebody where your going, leave them with a list of your intended route.

A few of the highlights of this walk include the majestic St Michaels Mount, St Michaels mount, Porthlevan harbour and the Lizard which is the most Southerly point of mainland Britain [The Isle of Scilly is more southerly]. I highly recommend this walk for anyone with moderate to good fitness, its a long walk but the route is amazing and an ideal escape from the city, perhaps just what you need? Just bear in mind you could always cut this journey down or walk bits of it to suit your fitness or timescale, Cornwall is your oyster, have a happy walk!
