Sariska National Park is considered as one amongst many of India’s most visited parks. Although its popularity is not majorly on its wildlife population, it is because of its excellent location and closeness to large towns like Jaipur and Delhi. Years ago, the park acts as the “hunting reserve” of the region’s “Royal Family of Alwar Rajasthan”.
In 1958, the park was instigated as a wildlife sanctuary. Later on, in the year 1979, it became the Sariska Tiger Reserve due to its “project tiger”.
Sariska National Park is about 800 sq. kilometers. The core area of the park alone covers 480 sq. kilometers. It lies along Rajasthan’s Alwar district by the Aravalli Hill ranges.
The park is open throughout the year since there are many monuments that had religious importance inside its premises. If you’re planning to visit this park, the best time is during October to June and the summer season but it can be extremely hot as the temperature may sometimes go as high as 49 deg C. For the winter season, the temperature goes as low as 4 degrees.
The park houses lots of carnivores like the wild dog, leopard, hyena, jungle cat, tiger and the jackal. These animals feed on the chitel, sambar, chausingha, nilgai, langur and wild boar which are also found in Sariska National Park. There are also the Rhesus Monkeys by the Talyriksh. When it comes to its avian world, it will surprise you with its varied and rich bird life. You’ll find here the grey partridge, peafowl, sand grouse and bush quail as well as the crested serpent eagle, great Indian horned owl, tree pie and the golden backed wood pecker.

Pandupol – This is the most visited spot in Sariska National Park. It reflects a legend about the Pandayes who spent part of their exile period here. This gave the place its significant historical importance. It is also said that this is where Bhima acquired his thousand elephant strength. During the rainy season, you’ll see a wonderful waterfall here.
Hanuman Temple – The land of Sariska is not only popular for its natural wilderness, it is also loved for its religious and cultural significance. These Sariska temples are situated inside the Sariska National Park. Amonsgt these towers, Hanuman Temple lie close to the watchtower.
Kankawadi Fort – This is also one of Sariska’s historical landmarks. It’s where the Mughul connection in Sariska becomes evident. This fort was built under the Mughul rule of Emperor Aurangazeb. For its vital role, it is mentioned that this is the place where Aurangazeb kept Dara Shikoh, his brother, as a prisoner.
With the forts location over a hill, it is easy to see the whole avian family of the park. It also overlooks some Guijar villages and the Kankawadi Plateau. Leopards form other areas come here to search for water and food.
