Shivratri is the moment when Shiva takes a relax. Shiva rests for one 'prahar' of the night. This night 'prahar' is known as the day Shivratri. On the day of Shivratri or Mahashivratri devotees observe fast for the complete daytime and night and pour milk, Ganga water, bael leaves, cannabies on the Shivalingam in the temples. The night elongated merriment of Mahashivaratri includes cultural programs, rudra homa, prayers to Lord Shiva.
