If you're familiar with the sport of paintball or you're just beginner, you are going to always find it difficult to select the right length of barrel for your paintball gun. The length of the barrel matters and will dictate how far paintballs travel from standing still to flying up to speeds of 300 fps. The first 8 to 10 inches of a barrel are the most important, and some people think that by adding another 4 inches on the barrel may be helpful in obtaining more accuracy and range. For anything over 8 inches, the pressure in the paintball gun barrel drops and any additional length just causes friction. If you purchase a barrel that is shorter than 8 inches like a pistol, it may have less range and accuracy than regular paintball guns. You're also going to need extra gas if you purchase of a paintball gun barrel that is longer than 14 inches.

Keep in mind that the ideal length for barrels on paintball guns is 8 to 14 inches. If you're competing in warmer weather, gas from the tank will expand faster so you can get away with a shorter barrel. The opposite happens in colder weather as the gas will need more time to expand, so a slightly longer barrel is better.

Barrels that are ported can be longer, but you're going to consume more gas. You'll find that many paintball stores or paintball gear suppliers will offer you a super, long-range paintball gun barrel. You're going to find that the longer barrel won't increase your range or accuracy, but it does have a few advantages. They will enable you to shoot around bunkers or peek through bushes easier without being exposed. A longer barrel that is ported is also much quieter. As far as the disadvantages are concerned, you'll find the longer barrel will consume more gas and it can make it harder to hide and maneuver on the field. You'll find the longer barrel is not going to increase the range of the paintballs. When two paintballs leave different-sized barrels at the same speed, they will travel the same distance. Consult with an online expert or your local paintball gear supplier for more information.
