Snap Shooting is considered one of the fundamental paintball skills that is most important in the sport. I personally believe that it is the most important aspect of the game. Everyone can throw ropes of paint, but what separates the good from the great is their snap shooting accuracy and speed.
The only thing that might be a more important aspect of the game is actually understanding it. Knowing paintball strategies and understanding how a team works together to implement a preset plan is under estimated in my opinion. Oliver Lang just wrote a paintball book that is 140 pages long and has everything you could ever want to know about the sport, from paintball skills to the history of paintball to detailed instruction on the correct techniques that most people just don't get.
Here are the TOP 7 Snap shooting tips:
1. Learn to snap shoot on both feet, don't kneel. You need to be ready to move quickly if you see an opening or if someone is coming to bunker you.
2. Never, well almost never shoot from the same place twice. Keep your opponent guessing where you are shooting and you have a better chance of surviving a goggle shot the mila-second you pop out from the same spot.
3. Use your body and feet to pop up or out of the bunker. Don't use your arms to extend out. Keep your nose to the back of the marker at all times.
4. Know how much of you is sticking out when you are shooting. Practice using a mirror to see what your opponent will see when you snap out.
5. Visualize the shot even before you snap out to take it.
Practice is really your best friend when it comes to snap shooting. Grab a teammate or buddy and practice this vital paintball skill. Have a snap off with your team, where two players face off against each other from the same type of bunker maybe 20 yards apart. You can limit the balls to 20 in each hopper or play with a full hopper til someone is hit. I can't stress enough how important it is to get a feel and to be comfortable snapping out of all types of bunkers. Every bunker has a different feel and angles. Know them well and you will have the advantage.
Here are the last two:
6. Another tip is to watch for patterns of your opponent. Take it easy for a minute and watch where he pops up and what is exposed. Then get in tune with his habits and eliminate him
7. Only shoot where you think he will pop up. So many players think it's a good idea to actually shoot the bunker. There is zero chance of hitting him if your ball hits the bunker. Also, if he is down and you are shooting the bunker, he may be able to tell how far you are and if you are advancing on him. Keep him guessing and ups your odds of actually hitting him by keeping your shots off the bunker.
