People with a passion can climb mountains. That is how a writer feels. If they cannot express themselves in a notebook and be typing on a computer they feel useless. They dream of being published and getting to the public what they feel they need to say. They see a future as a writer no matter how many rejection letters they get.

You may have a regular job but in your heart of hearts you know you are a writer. The best thing about writing is that you don't have to follow a course of anyone. Some of the best writers we study lived life by their terms and wrote about it. Hemingway sat in a bar in Key West and penned his thoughts.

Don't let your 'real' job keep you from writing. Make time to write even if it is the wee hours of the night or early in the morning. Get something on paper no matter what. Even if it is fifteen minutes on your lunch hour you are writing. It's really easy to make excuses but stop it and get to writing.

The bottom line is if you want to be a writer you must begin to write. You cannot think about writing and dream about signing autographs without first putting something down on paper. You may be a bit nervous and not know what to write about but you need to write something. Any writing is better than no writing at all.

Know the rules so you can break them if you need to. Don't get caught up in the rules either. If you have a thought write it. Don't let 'no' be a deterrent for sending out your work again. Do your research on a piece and follow through being true to your idea. Study other works and read other authors to appreciate other styles and enhance your knowledge of the world through other author's lives.

Write what you know about and never be stumped. Well so to speak. Study life around you and what you see as stories in your world. Don't talk yourself out of writing thinking no one will ever read it. Go ahead and write and stay positive. It can have a twist but will still be in your world.

Keep a notebook handy and write, write, write. Take time to write and jot down ideas. Even if they don't make sense now they may later. No matter what style of writing you do keep your notes close and don't give up. As they say everyone has one good novel in them.
