Many users have installed a blog or website script on their shared server and have absolutely no clue

2 - Directory submissions:
This is a very important work to do if you wish to rank higher in the search engines, you need to register to as many as possible website directories.
Try to choose high PR directories, this will give you some juice and Google will automatically rank you higher.
You can either try to manually find the directories in Google and other search engines or, use special tools that does it all for you! Well now you know where to look!
3 - Social bookmarking:
Social bookmarking is very important for your ranking and traffic, first you need to understand what is it and what are marketers using it for.
When you have a website like Facebook, Mixx or mister wong, you know that a huge amount of traffic is flowing, therefore you have to get some of this traffic for yourself.
One of the best example is to use a software who will send one of your website link or advertising text to 100 or 200 bookmarking websites at once, imagine the traffic!
Of course you need to do it right, be clever, to over do it or your accountd will get banned. Think about backlinks! Many of these bookmarking websites have DoFollow Tags,
That's right! Each time you send a url on a site like this one, you create a backlink to your website, how cool is that?
Always send your URLs on both Do Follow websites and NoFollow, this way Google will know that you are not trying to fake your rank, it will look more natural. You really don't want to have your website listed on DoFollow links only, tried it, tested it, trust me.
Other methods are available but the 3 above are the best, the oldest and the most efficient for long time ranking.
Some people will use blackhat methods to gain a rank fast but usually these methods only have a very short life span, that's why you need to stick to white hat tricks!
