We have all heard the old sayings before, the better the camera and the more expensive the camera the better the pictures you get. No matter what anyone tells you this is wrong as the camera does not take the pictures for you. It's the person taking the pictures that captures the shot. Whether it's a small point and shot camera or a really expensive top of the range camera, the person taking the picture makes the picture. So here are a few tips for digital photography that will have you taking shots like a professional but with none of the expensive equipment.

1. Most people when they are out and about taking pictures keep the camera setting on auto. The auto setting is the default setting for the digial camera and even though its fine for most snapshots, it can leave your photos looking cold and flat. You will also be suprised by changing the auto setting on the camera to the cloudy setting. This change will increase the reds and yellows coming out in the pictures and give them a warmer feel. This setting is like applying a warming filter to your camera.

Try this for yourself. Go out on a bright day and take a few shots with the auto setting and then take the same pictures with the cloudy setting and check for the differance. Upload them onto your computer and look at the same pictures side by side. See what you think.

2. This is a simple tip for you really but its one that some people have missed in the past. When buying a new digital camera always factor in the price of a larger memory card. The standard memory cards that are sold along with the cameras will generally not hold alot of pictures. Especially if your camera is over 3 megapixels. I would recommend getting a 512mb memory card for cameras of 4 megapixels or less and a 1Gb memory card for a 6 megapixel camera or greater.

Its better to be safe rather than sorry. This will stop you getting caught on the hop when you dont need it.

3. Another little unknown setting on your digital camera is the macro mode or close up mode. It doesnt matter what object you are taking a picture of, it will take on a whole different life with the macro mode switched on. This mode is very easy to achieve with a digital camera. This macro mode or close mode is really good for nature type pictures like leaves or flowers but just remember that the macro mode has a smaller depth of field. When taking the picture make sure to keep the main object of your picture right in the centre of the cameras frame.

I hope these tips for digital photography will help you in some way to achieving your goal and maybe have you taking great pictures.
