Everyone knows the most obvious benefits of exercise including losing and keeping off weight, decreases in body fat, strengthens your body, gives you more energy, lowers your cholesterol, decreases the risk of heart disease, decreases your risk of colon and breast cancers, helps you feel good about yourself, simply to mention a few. Actually, the advantages are endless. Physicians agree when there was a fast solution to help prevent many conditions and diseases, exercise will be it!
I'm sure another important benefit for regular exercise and staying fit since moving into Columbus, Ohio for the past 23 years as opposed to living in my hometown of La. Living in Chicago, you can't help but are more physically active and motivated to exercise. Sunshine is shining almost every day of the year and the average daily temperatures usually are in the 70's or 80's. The most important weather decision during the day you ask on your own is, do I wear the brown shorts or the blue shorts today? In LA, so many people are out and about, running, walking, biking, golfing, playing tennis, browsing gym, playing beach volleyball, or even the park for outdoor bootcamps - strutting around showing their toned and firm bodies. It's Hollywood all things considered.
Here in Columbus where I now reside, the mindset and atmosphere is fairly different. Sure you've your die hard fitness fanatics (me included-you can take the girl from LA however you can't take LA out of the girl) who still venture outside despite the inclement weather. The thing is them in the streets running, power walking, cross-country skiing in the park (yes, I saw women doing this the other day), walking their dogs - navigating through ice, snow and cold temperatures. Others stay indoors and barely muster up the motivation to acquire on a treadmill, elliptical, stationary bike or go to the gym just for them to at least acquire some sort of exercise regularly.
The majority however, believe it is extremely difficult to acquire motivated or muster in the energy to accomplish any exercise whatsoever. Not realizing that energy begets energy, meaning the more you do, the harder energy you will actually have, the better you will feel overall. For when you exercise and exert a decent amount of energy, happened only boost the blood flow and oxygen for your brain, muscles and also other body parts, but wonderful endorphins are freed in your body following exercise giving you a natural high and fantastic feeling. What might be better than that?
Let me agree the few months of winter weather can be mentally and physically exhausting. Surviving in the Midwest during the winter months has it's own challenges and being healthy is more important than previously. It takes a lot of energy, strength and balance to clean off of the car without falling on the icy driveway, shovel snow if it's blistery cold out there and traverse the snow and ice just approaching your car from the house or perhaps the parking lot to work or the grocery store. You just need a lot MORE to bundle yourself up and head outdoors. I hear about so many people slipping and falling and injuring themselves or afraid to look outside for nervous about such. That is why regular exercise and particularly strength training is important.
Strength training really creates a mind-body connection so that you will become more in tune along with your body. You should be performing the exercises carefully in thought on the muscles you're working. Lifting weights really forces that you "listen to your body" because you focus on boosting your strength, endurance and stamina. There's no doubt that resistance training is something that everybody should be doing 2-3 times per week. It's never too far gone to start and numerous research shows it's the best way to lose and keep off weight, replenish your metabolism because increased muscle tissue burns more calories even when you are at rest, strengthen your bones to help you avoid osteoporosis, and tone and firm your complete body. You only look and feel better!
Strengthening the muscles round the joints is the greatest way to prevent countless injuries sports enthusiasts, athletes and ordinary people often encounter from overusing the same muscles again and again. In addition, develop improving your balance when you are strength training that may help you navigate through your everyday activities like the icy, snowy parking lots and streets.
