Many people prefer to eat at fast food restaurants rather than fixing their own meals. But, there is much to be said from cooking your own meals at home also.
First of all, you can control your diet and food intake much better if you cook at home. Whenever you eat out at a restaurant, for the most part, your are putting your health into the chef's hands. For example, he may tend to put much more salt on the foods than you would prefer. Alternatively, he may make heavy use of oils and other fats that you would rather do without. When you cook your own meals at home, however, it allows you to completely control what you put into your food. And, if you are on a diet, watching your weight, or simply trying to eat healthier foods, you control the ingredients one hundred percent.
The second thing is that when you cook your own meals at home, odds are that the foods you choose will most likely be healthier foods. When most people order dinners or meals to be delivered, odds are it will be from a fast food restaurant, such as a pizzeria. And while pizzas are certainly tasty, most are not known for their health benefits.
Those who do their own cooking, however, at least try to include a good balance of vegetables with their meals, even if they don't always succeed.
You also save money when you cook at home. For example, you may easily pay $5 to $10 for a half pound burger at a sit down restaurant. And, you'd have to tip the waiter. But, if you were to buy the beef and ingredients yourself, you could have the same burger for under $2.
There are many reasons why people choose not to cook at home. But, the primary reason given is that they simply don't have the time. And, with most families needing two or more incomes to live on, it makes sense that they would not want to turn such a large chunk of their time over to cooking and doing dishes.
But it does not have to be that way. In fact, if you become proficient in planning your trips to the market, making your menus, and cooking - you will find that it doesn't take you that much extra time at all. In addition, for most recipes, the biggest part of the preparation process is chopping the ingredients. But, today, you can buy so many of these items pre-chopped, that it is hardly an issue.
And, you can also cook in bulk. So instead of cooking a casserole for two, cook enough for eight, and freeze the rest in two portion sized containers. Then, the next time you want casserole, in essence, you have 3 TV dinners all set to go.
