Downspouts are used to direct water from the roof, down, and away from a building. Using a PVC downspout rather than a metal one can extend the life of the gutter and downspout system. If the gutter that the downspout is being attached to is not covered screens may be needed to keep leaves, birds, and bees from clogging the PVC downspouts, and causing poor drainage though the pipes.
Special downspout kits can be purchased to install a water collection system in drought prone regions. These kits collect some of the water and divert excess away from the foundation.
