Colon cleansing is one of the older alternative therapies that had virtually died out and gotten buried for many years; but which have since resurfaced, and turned out to be extremely popular in recent days.
In colon cleansing, the goal is to rid the body of fecal matter and other toxins which, unchecked, tend to accumulate inside the colon – which is the last portion of the digestive tract.
The desire to get rid of such fecal matter and toxins accumulated in the colon is born of appreciation of the fact that the build up of toxins in any part of the body is always bound to start exerting negative effects on the body. So we end up with a situation where a person in whom fecal matter and other toxins accumulate unchecked starts complaining of things like digestive problems, weight gain, immunity compromises, lethargy and a host of other illnesses – all rooted in the accumulated toxins. For this reason, a procedure that gets rid of the accumulated toxins like colon cleansing comes in handy.
Now the way modern colon cleansing works is such that the accumulated toxins are first submerged in water, and then ‘flushed’ out of the body. It is what some commentators call the ‘water closest’ mechanism – where human waste in the loo is first submerged in water, and then flushed out into the sewer system.
In order to make colon cleansing possible in this way, however, a couple of problems arise. For one, the body can only take so much water – yet the toxins we are looking at here need plenty of water if they are to dissolve and get flushed out of the body. Secondly, even with the greatest amount of water, not all of the toxins we are seeking to get rid of would dissolve in water in order to be ‘flushed out of the body.’
It is at this point that the colon cleanse agent comes in. The colon cleanse agent (sometimes also referred to as the colon cleanser) then serves two main roles in the colon cleansing process.
1) The first role that the colon cleanse agent serves (in overcoming one of the problems identified before) is that of making the body capable of taking in the huge amounts of water required for colon cleansing. In other words, this is giving the body tolerance for such high amounts of water – which it wouldn’t otherwise have. Without this particular help from the colon cleanse agent, it becomes virtually impossible to proceed with the colon cleansing process, which as we have seen, is a water intensive process.
2) The second role that the colon cleanse agent plays is that of ‘nudging’ even the insoluble toxins to dissolve in water, and be flushed out of the body. In this respect, the colon cleanse agent is serving as a ‘natural soap.’ As we know, if we were to attempt to wash clothes with plain water only, we may not have much success –as some stains have to be somehow ‘nudged’ to dissolve in the water – by a soap or detergent and be washed away. In a similar manner, some toxins have to be nudged to dissolve in water, and then be washed out of the body – a role played by the colon cleanse agents.
