Stretch marks are those unsightly marks that develop on a person’s skin, when their skin is subjected to strain beyond its elasticity limits. Like every material, the human skin has an elasticity limit – and it is when this is exceeded by pressure coming from within that stretch marks are formed. As such, stretch marks tend to be formed during periods of major and sudden growth – like the growth spurts that characterize certain periods in puberty, and of course the rather rapid growth which is characteristic of pregnancy.
Many people who find themselves afflicted of stretch marks don’t like them, the fact that the stretch marks tend to afflict parts of the body not available to the ‘public for viewing’ notwithstanding. Truth be told, stretch marks don’t look good, and they are worth avoiding.
Thankfully, there are a number of very easy things you can do, to keep stretch marks at bay.
1) One is just upping your water intake. What effort does this really take? Unless you happen to live in the Sahara, where water does not come easily, you will agree that it doesn’t really take a lot to keep your water intake up. Moreover, upping your water intake, in addition to protecting you from stretch marks, will also offer you a number of other benefits. It will keep you feeling energetic. It will keep away from constipation. It has beneficial effects on almost all body organs…in other words, it is an easy thing to do, and one that besides protecting you from stretch marks, will give you lots of other benefits.
2) The second easy thing you can do to keep stretch marks at bay is to move around. This is about exercise, and while you can get a lot at the gym, just ‘moving around’ may be all you need to keep stretch marks at bay. What does this take? Unless you happen to live in a very unsafe neighborhood, you can walk your dog. You can walk to work or school, rather than driving or being driven there, if its close enough. You can start doing stuff around the house, you know – just moving about. And it has lots of other benefits, besides keeping stretch marks at bay. It can keep your heart healthy. It can lead to the release of endorphins, these being the ‘feel good’ hormones. In any event, it is far better than just parking yourself in front of the TV all day, with a packet of crisps on your hands.
3) The third easy thing you can do to keep stretch marks at bay is to make use of a moisturizing cream part of your daily routine. Again this does not take a lot. The moisturizing creams (especially the so called stretch mark creams), don’t really cost that much money. Yet they can not only keep stretch marks from forming, but actually even combat stretch marks already on the skin. And by keeping yourself moisturized, you will not only be protecting yourself from stretch marks, but lots of other conditions associated with skin dryness.
