Off the beaten track in the United Kingdom, my family, together with my sister’s family, decided to tour the UK using a motorhome for the summer. We had decided to do this not just because it would end up more inexpensive for us in terms of hotel room charges, but it gave us the time to bond with each other and for the cousins, all 5 of them to bond as well. Since we were both based elsewhere in the world, it would be nice of them to spend two weeks together and so we also decided to bring our parents along. All in all, we would be eleven in the group.
We rented or leased our “vehicles” from Bridgend motorhomes. I have had a good relationship with this company two years back when we did a similar vacation with my family. The people who owned Bridgend motorhomes, which were family run, had become friends of ours. And they were more than happy to help us with what vehicles to choose. Through correspondence with them through their website www.bridgendmotorhomes.co.uk , we were able to decide which vehicles we would lease. At first, we wanted to get one motorhome for all eleven of us but when we got there, our friends at the Bridgend motorhomes decided to lend us another one at minimal cost so we were able to get two motorhome vehicles for the price of one.
We rented the 2005 Reg Burstner from them which was one of the biggest in the lot and they lent us the 1998 Reg eldis motorhome for a song. Once they found out that my parents would be coming, the owners of the Bridgend motorhomes actually went with us for our week long excursion and had my parents ride with them. It was a great site to see three huge motorhomes running through the country roads. It almost seemed like a caravan of sorts. In fact, some people did stop by and asked if we were on a tour or an exhibition or something.
Since we had locals with us on tour, we were exposed to some of the best sites that are off the tourist grid in the UK. Evenings were spent cooking meals together as we would cook our own special meals for the lot. The kids, being kids, had fun whatever they were doing, wherever they have been. The nice walks along the countryside enabled my wife and I to spend quality time and enjoying the country air, that green patches of land that could be seen for miles and miles
We spent our last night at the leisure park of the Bridgend motor homes. The owners invited us for a dinner in the town. And when we arrived at the pub, we were greeted by their employees who took time and effort to cook some of their specialties, like kidney pies and bangers. There was even a lady, Madlyn if I remember who baked some of the best custard pies I have ever tasted.
In the end, I actually bought the motorhome from them, to be used as an investment whether it be rented or sold. I am happy to say that from that small investment, I believe I have made a lifelong friendship with them. The motorhome is just a bonus but from what I gather from our recent emails, I may get my return of investment sooner than I think.
